We don't currently include a SIM card with the device, so you are free to use which ever SIM card you want, the only requirement is that you order a device with the correct modem, which in your case will be the EU version.
When you start the device, you can connect to the local autopi hotspot, and then access local.autopi.io - where you can configure the APN among other things.
The device will by default be connected to our cloud platform, which is free to use if you have less than three devices.
But you are free to change the configuration so that it will send the data to your own REST endpoint.
If the Hyundai Kona EV supports OBD2 - the autopi will work just fine.
We are working on several features and improvements that will make the life of an EV owner easier, like displaying the SOC of battery in a graph in the autopi dashboard, receive notifications when it goes below a specific level etc - but some of the things, including an EV issue with trip generation is still in progress, and thus not yet available.
You can query any OBD2 PID from the device, so you should be able to get the info that you need.
We don't provide any apps currently, but our cloud platform is built to work on mobile devices too.
It's something we would like to make at some point, but right now we don't know when or if it will be.

The device can be woken by sending a text message to to the number of the sim card.
It will also wake on a schedule configurable by the user - and when starting the engine, the device will also start up.
